“We think Siliguri is a highly potential market which not only caters to North Bengal but also to people of the North East, Sikkim, Bhutan and Nepal,” says Siddharthaa Sawansukha, CEO, Sawansukha Jewellers. “Usually the people in this part of the country have to travel to Kolkata for buying fine jewellery. Our showroom will give them the opportunity to choose from the finest modern designs in gold, diamonds and precious stones without having to travel out of the city.”
The Sawansukha name has been intimately connected with the diamond trade for nearly two centuries. Now headed by Siddharthaa, a graduate in Jewellery Design from the American Institute of Gemology, USA, this jewellery brand has won several accolades in recent years for its designs and showrooms including the prestigious DTC Awards for ‘the best showroom in Eastern India’ and several Solitaire Design Awards by Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council. Its creations have been showcased in the India International Jewellery Show. Most recently, it was selected as the only jeweller from Eastern India to participate in the Emeralds for Elephants exhibition by Gemfields. Sawansukha also has its own design school The Sawansukha Institute of Gemology and Jewellery Design (SIG).
The Siliguri Showroom will focus mainly on light and wedding jewellery, in keeping with the demand of the region. As part of the launch, all making charges are being waived for the the next six days. For Sawansukha, however, the thrust is not on discounts but designs. “Our focus here is on contemporary and fusion designs which are likely to appeal to the younger generation,” says Siddharthaa. “Given the fact that we are opening on Valentine’s Day, there is also a lot for young lovers to explore,” he adds.
